WebP to PNG,
lossless, and transparency kept.
Sometimes you need a PNG specifically: an editor that won't take WebP, a tool that demands it, a working copy you'll edit without stacking compression. PNG is lossless and keeps the transparency a WebP carries. The one thing to expect — for a photo, the PNG will be a lot heavier. It all happens in this page, nothing uploaded.
The short version
Convert WebP to PNG when the destination needs PNG — an older editor, a pipeline that only accepts it, a design tool that chokes on WebP — or when you want a lossless working copy you can edit and re-save without losing a little each time. PNG also keeps transparency, so a cut-out stays a cut-out.
The trade is size. PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly and compresses nothing away photographically. On a photograph that makes the PNG far larger than the WebP — often many times over. On flat graphics, logos and screenshots the gap is small, and PNG is exactly the right tool.

Convert a WebP to PNG in three steps
- Open the converter. The button above lands on the tool with PNG already selected under "Save as".
- Add your WebP files. Drop, paste, or choose a folder. Read into the tab, never uploaded.
- Save the PNGs. Each is re-encoded on your device, transparency intact — save individually or as one zip.
When WebP to PNG is right
- An editor or tool that requires PNG. Plenty of software still treats PNG as the universal lossless format and won't accept WebP. PNG makes the file usable there.
- A working copy you'll keep editing. Because PNG is lossless, re-saving it doesn't degrade the image — the tenth save equals the first.
- Anything with transparency headed somewhere fussy. A logo or icon with a see-through background keeps that background as a PNG.
When to think twice
- It's a photograph and size matters. The PNG can balloon to many times the WebP for no visible gain. If you just need it to open somewhere, convert to JPG instead — far smaller.
- You expect PNG to look better. It won't. Lossless preserves what the WebP already had; it can't recover detail the WebP discarded.
The honest caveats
- A photo PNG is heavy. Lossless means no photographic compression, so a photograph saved as PNG can be many times the size of the WebP. That's the format doing its job, not a fault — but it's real, and worth knowing before you convert a big batch.
- Lossless doesn't mean restored. PNG makes a perfect copy of what the WebP decoded to. The WebP already lost some detail when it was made, and PNG can't bring that back. It preserves; it can't recover.
- Transparency is kept — that's the upside over JPG. Both WebP and PNG have an alpha channel, so cut-outs survive the trip.
- Nothing uploads, and you can prove it. Open DevTools' Network tab, or switch off your Wi-Fi, and convert one. EXIF metadata is dropped in the re-encode; rotation is applied.
Questions people actually ask
- Why is my PNG so much bigger than the WebP?
- Because PNG is lossless and WebP isn't. PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no photographic compression, so a photo lands far heavier. On flat graphics the gap nearly vanishes.
- Does the transparency survive?
- Yes. WebP and PNG both support an alpha channel, so a transparent WebP stays transparent as a PNG. That's a key reason to pick PNG over JPG here.
- Will the PNG look better than the WebP?
- No. It's a faithful, larger copy of the same picture. Lossless preserves detail; it can't restore what the WebP already discarded.
- Is WebP to PNG free, with no limit?
- Yes — no account, no daily cap, no file limit. It runs on your device. For large PNG batches, saving file by file is steadier than one big zip, and the app warns you.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Turn off your Wi-Fi and convert one; it works, because the whole thing runs in this page.
