JPG to SVG,
if it's a graphic, not a photo.
Tracing a JPG into a vector SVG is genuinely useful — for a flat logo, an icon or a screenshot that happens to be a JPG. It is genuinely a bad idea for a photograph, which is what most JPGs are. So the first question is which one you've got, and this page answers it plainly before you spend the click. Nothing is uploaded either way.
Read this first: is your JPG a photo?
It matters more than anything else on this page. Vector tracing rebuilds an image out of flat shapes. A logo or icon is flat shapes, so it traces into a crisp, scalable SVG. A photograph is millions of gradients with no clean shapes to find, so the tracer approximates it with thousands of paths — and the result is blurry, posterised, and often larger than the JPG you started with.
Because most JPGs are photos, the honest default answer to "JPG to SVG?" is usually no. If yours is a logo, a symbol, a diagram or a UI screenshot saved as JPG, you're in the good case — read on. If it's a photo of a person, place or object, keep the JPG or convert it to WebP; the converter will warn you if you try to trace it anyway.

Trace a JPG to SVG in three steps
- Open the converter. The button above lands on the tool with SVG already selected under "Save as".
- Add your JPG. Drop, paste, or choose a folder. It's read into the tab, never uploaded.
- Save the SVG. The image is traced into vector paths on your device. If it looks like a photo, you'll see a warning first — heed it.
The good case: flat JPGs that trace well
- A logo saved as JPG. Common, and a perfect candidate — you get a clean, scalable vector back.
- Icons and symbols. Few colours, hard edges: exactly what tracing is for.
- Screenshots of flat graphics. Solid-fill UI elements trace cleanly.
- Diagrams and line art. Sharp outlines survive as editable paths.
The honest caveats
- Photos come out badly. Worth repeating: a traced photo is blurry, posterised and frequently bigger than the JPG. The converter's photo-guard warns you when it detects one. It still lets you proceed — your call — but it won't pretend the output is good.
- Two approximations stacked. A JPG already threw detail away when it was saved, and tracing approximates on top of that. On flat art you won't care; on anything detailed it compounds.
- Detail vs size. The quality slider sets how many colours the trace follows — higher for more fidelity and a bigger file, lower for a smaller, more posterised one.
- Nothing uploads, and you can check it. The tracer is pure JavaScript on your device. Watch the Network tab, or cut your Wi-Fi and trace anyway — it still works.
Questions people actually ask
- I have a JPG photo — can I get a clean SVG of it?
- Not really. Tracing needs flat shapes, and a photo has none, so you get a large, soft, posterised file. Keep the JPG, or convert it to WebP to shrink it. SVG is for graphics, not photographs.
- My JPG is actually a logo. Will it trace well?
- Yes — that's the good case. A flat, few-colour logo traces into a crisp, scalable SVG with clean paths you can edit afterwards.
- Is it a genuine vector?
-
Yes — real
<path>shapes, not the JPG wrapped in an<image>tag. That's why it scales without blurring. - Does the quality slider help with a photo?
- It lets you throw more colours at it, but it can't turn a photograph into shapes — you just get a bigger blurry file. The slider earns its keep on flat art.
- Is JPG to SVG free, with no limit?
- Yes — no account, no daily cap, no file limit. It runs entirely on your device.
